The sequel promises all-new combat and customization options, some of which are shown in the trailer. Accompanied by a beautiful score, audiences get a glimpse into the exciting, and often dangerous, world of Ori, where new challenging puzzles await players, including some incredible-looking boss fights.

As far as the story in Ori and the Will of the Wisps goes, the game will task players to seek out help from new allies, as they uncover truths of the lost ones, while learning Ori’s true destiny.

There has not been a lot of information on the game before the trailer dropped, with one of the last real previews being a behind-the-scenes teaser video posted by developer Moon Studios. In it, the studio takes an in-depth look at the creation of the announcement trailer shown as last year’s E3. The game’s programmer, Gennadiy Korol, explains how the sequel’s development team revamped creative tools to allow the animators more freedom.

For those not familiar with the series, Ori and the Will of the Wisps will be a platform-adventure title where players will assume the role of Ori, a white guardian spirit. As the game progresses, it works similarly to a Metroidvania-style game, where new abilities allow Ori to access new areas of the game, and retread old areas in new ways. The series is not available anywhere outside of a Microsoft platform, meaning only Windows and Xbox One players will get to explore this title.

The first game in the series, Ori and the Blind Forest, was critically acclaimed, garnered multiple awards, and even earned a spot on Game Rant’s top 10 games of 2015.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps is currently scheduled for a 2019 release date.
