One Piece Odyssey Stats

Like most JRPGs, players have access to numerous characters that they can utilize to confront the game’s many enemies. These enemies can be diverse regarding their tactics and abilities, which means that each character will be better against certain enemies than others. This is largely due to the different allocation of stats for each One Piece Odyssey character, on top of their different abilities and attack ranges that complement each character. Mostly, these stats work in ways that will seem familiar to any player that has played RPGs in the past.

For instance, the Attack stat will increase the amount of damage dealt to enemies, which will be defended against with the enemy’s Defense stat. The HP stat will increase the amount of hit points a character has, the Resistance stat decreases the chance of being afflicted with status effects, and TP determines how much TP each character has to fuel their Skills. On the note of Skills, here is where the Guts stat plays its role in the Scramble Area Battles system.

Guts Stat

This brings us to the Guts stat in One Piece Odyssey. The Guts stat possesses a similar function to Defense in that it decreases the damage that the Straw Hats would take. The major difference between the two is that the Attack stat governs the damage done by both regular attacks and Skills, but Guts determines how much damage characters will take from Skills instead of Defense.

This means that a character with high Defense but low Guts will not take a lot of damage from regular attacks but will take considerably more damage from Skills. The reverse is true for characters with high Guts, as low Defense-users will take little damage from Skills and more damage from regular attacks. The type of enemy will also impact the damage dealt and taken, but the overall takeaway for beginners is that a character with higher Guts will take less damage from enemy skills.

Players should be aware of what each enemy is more vulnerable to and counter accordingly as One Piece Odyssey’s story unfolds. If players are struggling to keep their Straw Hats in the fight, they should endeavor to make sure characters with high defense are fighting enemies that spend more time attacking and putting characters with high Guts out front when enemies rely more on Skills.

This can be altered by equipping accessories and using certain items, allowing players to build their notorious Straw Hat crew to be more resistant to skills or attacks as they level.

One Piece Odyssey is available now for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S.
