The official kick off for Awesome Games Done Quick is set for a little later today, January 7th, and the event will run until the early hours of Sunday, January 14th. In between that week, gamers will see some truly impressive speed runs and challenge runs wherein players will take seemingly substantial campaigns and reduce them to rubble in a few hours, if that.

Awesome Games Done Quick typically has some mainstay titles that feature regularly, and this year’s event is no different. Players can expect to see speed runs for games like Crash Bandicoot 3 (albeit as part of the N. Sane Trilogy), Super Mario Galaxy, and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Admittedly, not all of these speed runs are straight completion runs, with some featuring unique ways to tackle their respective game, like getting all collectibles in Dishonored.

This year will also feature some brand new speed runs for games that released in the past year. Titles like Prey, Yooka-Laylee, Hollow Knight, and Owlboy will all make their speed running debut on the Games Done Quick stage, so players looking to see how fast a seasoned veteran can complete those games are encouraged to tune in.

There are also some notable absences from the Awesome Games Done Quick 2018 roster including Super Mario Odyssey and Cuphead, two titles that would be great to see on the speed running stage. Both have some truly impressive strategies when it comes to speed running, but perhaps they are being saved for Summer Games Done Quick later this year.

But the grand finale for Awesome Games Done Quick 2018 is a major release from 2017, arguably the biggest release. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be closing out the event with a speed run that requires the completion of all main quests and prohibits the use of amiibo.

The game appeared briefly as a bonus speed run during last year’s Summer Games Done Quick but the speed run was in the any% category so it skipped large portions of the game and went straight to Ganon as soon as possible. This year’s speed run will show how more of the game can be “broken” and should be a more comprehensive look at how Zelda players are using the tools in the game to complete puzzles and beat bosses.

Awesome Games Done Quick 2018 runs from January 7th until January 14th.
