Avatar: Reckoning looks to be the next game set in James Cameron’s world since Ubisoft’s project is still a ways off, but it seems like an odd choice for Pandora’s next video game adventure. It looks more like a PUBG Mobile clone than a grand adventure through a science-fiction world, and that may put a lot of potential players off. Couple that with the bad reputation that mobile games have, and Avatar: Reckoning may not be an explosive return to the forests of Pandora.

Avatar: Reckoning is an MMO Shooter on Pandora

Avatar: Reckoning will bring the world of Pandora to iOS and Android sometime in the future. It will take place after the events of the first film and allow players to create their own Avatar warrior. They will be able to customize the look of their character, the outfits that they wear, and the guns that they will use. They will then be sent off into Pandora to follow a brand-new story in the universe, and their character will get stronger as they progress further throughout this world.

Avatar: Reckoning is a mobile MMORPG with a heavy emphasis on gunplay. Players will shoot their way through Pandora with guns that they can customize to their liking. Throughout the game, players will collect all sorts of different attachments and weapons that will help them take out their foes. They will take these weapons on single-player missions across Pandora to unravel the mysterious plot and explore brand-new regions of the planet.

Single-player missions are not the only type of gameplay that Avatar: Reckoning will offer. Since it is an MMO, players will also be able to group up with others to complete harder instances. They can also compete in various PvP modes across a variety of maps to battle it out for glory. Time will tell just how fun or engaging these modes are, but it does seem to provide the player with a decent amount of content to choose from when they want to explore Pandora.

Avatar: Reckoning Does Not Scream James Cameron’s Avatar

Exploring the world of Pandora in an RPG could be a lot of fun, but Avatar: Reckoning does not really seem like the game to do it. The gameplay that has been shown off so far puts a very heavy emphasis on guns, and that just does not scream James Cameron’s Avatar series. Guns and war are very present in the first movie, but that was hardly the focus of the story. It was more about the grand world and the people that call it home, and Avatar: Reckoning seems to lose sight of that.

A lot of the gameplay of Avatar: Reckoning also looks very similar to other mobile shooters on the market. While it does not seem to be a battle royale, the gameplay and UI look eerily close to games like PUBG Mobile. It just does not look very special or magical like the film did, and the mobile platforms heavily limited just how grand this MMORPG can be. It will most likely also come coupled with hefty microtransactions, but those have not been talked about yet.

Avatar: Reckoning looks more like a standard mobile shooter with an Avatar skin attached instead of a full-fledged Avatar title. It may blow everyone away once players actually get their hands on it, but right now it just does not feel like the world that James Cameron created. It does not seem to present a grand world brimming with life for players to explore, but instead Pandora seems like a simple backdrop for an otherwise pretty cookie-cutter shooter, and that should not be the case.

Avatar: Reckoning is currently in development for iOS and Android.
