With Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora receiving a brand-new teaser trailer at Disney’s D23 convention, fans were able to get another glimpse at what the game-world will look like. The title is reportedly going to be set within an unexplored part of Pandora known as the Western Frontier, but given just how mysterious the region is, the game would do well to give fans a more informed look at what to expect before launch.

The Basics of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is an upcoming first person action adventure title set in an open world. The title is being developed by an Ubisoft subsidiary known as Massive Entertainment, and is currently set for a release window of 2023. Players will take control of a Na’vi, member of the tall, blue humanoid race that is indigenous to the lush planet of Pandora. Akin to the plot of the record-breaking 2009 film, the main antagonistic force in the title will be the RDA, or Resources Development Administration, who are a human-led non-governmental organization that is seeking to strip Pandora of its natural resources.
The Western Frontier of Pandora is billed as a never-before-seen region of the planet, removing the ambitious title from the core plot of the record-breaking 2009 Avatar film by giving it a more unique identity all its own. That being said, given how keen many fans are for more details regarding the title, Ubisoft may need to contextualize the Western Frontier soon to make the most of recent fan interest.
The Western Frontier of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
Everything that fans currently know about Pandora’s Western Frontier comes from trailers and promotional imagery that Frontiers of Pandora has already released. This understanding was somewhat bolstered recently with the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase.
In addition to the short trailer at that event, the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase also revealed in-game footage for the upcoming Avatar: Reckoning, an open-world MMORPG designed for mobile devices set within the same universe. With many pointing out that fans have seen more of Reckoning than Frontiers despite the latter being announced long ago, Ubisoft needs to draw attention back to Frontiers of Pandora and its setting.
From trailers and screenshots, fans can ascertain that the Western Frontier of Pandora is physically similar to the regions depicted in the films, boasting a wide range of biomes. Given the intended scale of the game world, fans will be able to interact with the different environments in a way that was not previously possible, and Ubisoft would do well to further outline this prospect in the run-up to the game’s release. It is imperative that Ubisoft acts sooner rather than later to maintain and build upon the interest surrounding Frontiers of Pandora, hopefully revealing more about how the Na’vi interact with species in this new region compared to other parts of Pandora.
Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora is in development for PC, PS5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X/S.
