Then when Avalanche confirmed Just Cause 3 as part of Game Informer’s cover story many began to wonder how legitimate those images were. More specifically, players wanted to know whether Just Cause 3 will be a free-to-play game or an experience riddled with microtransactions.
Thankfully, now that the word is out Avalanche Studios can set the record straight regarding those leaked images. Avalanche Co-Founder Christofer Sundberg took to his studio’s official site to reveal that the images were actually from an early version of Just Cause 3.
At the time the images were created, the developer was testing different aesthetics and business models for the sequel, but they have since changed directions. That’s all to say that Just Cause 3 will not be free-to-play and it will not include microtransactions.
That admission in itself should be enough to calm Just Cause fans’ fears about the forthcoming third game, at least from one perspective. Given that previous Just Cause games featured microtransactions we were fully prepared to accept that number 3 would too, but thankfully that is not the case.
Even so, Avalanche is not ruling out the possibility of DLC for Just Cause 3, so there may yet to be other items to pay for beyond the base game. As Sundberg puts it, Avalanche would like to support Just Cause 3 “for many years to come.”
Obviously, with this nagging issue out of the way, gamers can look forward to a month’s worth of Just Cause 3 content courtesy of Game Informer. We’ve been hearing rumors of Just Cause 3 for years, but now it’s time the game comes into greater focus. As with past series entries, we hope to see more of the game’s open world and how the chaotic gameplay will benefit from new consoles. Stick tuned to Game Rant for more.
